So the economy is caught in a perpetual flush cycle and the government is crumbling under the pressure of imminent deficits. You’re waiting for HR to ask you to stop by so they can talk about “restructuring”. You’re wondering if you can even afford to drive to the mall this holiday season, let alone buy mounds of stuff there. Well, no worries. Here are some resources for thrifty Canadians with the most meagre of budgets, because let’s face it – right now it’s cool to be cheap.
Don’t waste your time surfing around for deals, I’ve put together a list of the eight best Canadian deal sites out there for you:

Not all of Apple’s offerings are shiny and perfect. And when it comes to iTunes, most sane people will agree that this music player is just plain ugly. I applaud Scott Gilberson for calling it like it is in his blog post, “The Top Ten Reasons iTunes Sucks”. Here are his main beefs:

If you’re more concerned with your company culture than the size of your pay cheque, your might be interested in this Vancouver start-up. Jiibe is a user-generated service that matches your value system to a compatible company based on a questionnaire you fill out.
I can see this site being really useful to young Millennials who care a great deal about the softer aspects of job satisfaction and are in a process of self-discovery. However, this sort of thing (“eHarmony for jobs” as one user put it) might be a bit touchy-feely for boomers. But hey, if you’re unemployed you probably have time to slog through the 100+ questions and spend some pleasant self-actualization time finding out you should have been working for Tim Hortons this whole time.

That’s probably the cheesiest line I’ve ever written. But for some reason, the editors over at alive actually seem to revel in cheese (One example is the title I’ll eternally shake my head at: G…I can’t believe it’s a Glycemic index). God bless ‘em though – they’re a wonderful bunch.
Anyway, here’s an article I really enjoyed writing because, well, I love surfing! And so does Scott over in the art department. He took some glorious pictures in Tofino and quite simply graced my article with them. Click on the thumbnail to hit the beach dude.

Here are some recent article shorts. As usual, you can click on the thumbnails to read them. The one on the left is a feel-good piece on laughter yoga. The right piece touches on the depressing psychological and cultural effects of global warming. There’s also a teeny one in there on the dodgy air we have to breathe in airplanes (even Purell won’t save you this time).
Seeing these two articles juxtaposed like this evokes a stark contrast between Western frivolity and Aboriginal reality. Note how they’re both sitting in the same cross-legged position too. I almost wish the art department had actually planned it that way.
