Number 1 game for women

1. sam and max: Season one (PC)

In Sam and Max, you take control of the two furry freelance police detectives introduced to gamers in the cult classic Sam and Max Hit the Road (1993). The resurrection of Sam and Max after a fifteen-year hiatus may seem dubious, but their return is surprisingly triumphant.

Playing a dog and a rabbit may not sound like a riot for those over five years of age, but as fans of the characters know, Sam and Max don’t belong in any bedtime story. Sam and Max handles humour with a sophistication that makes Beavis and Butt-Head look like crude amateurs. This wise-cracking, quip-slinging pair was engaging in meaningless banter before it became fashionable in Pulp Fiction.

Thrill-seeking gamers, however, may get impatient with Sam and Max’s easy-going pace. At times it does take a while for the characters to meander across the screen, and there is no way to make them run. In addition, some of the locations in the season are a bit overused, and frustrated gamers might start wishing for some new scenery after rummaging around Sam and Max’s office for the umpteenth time. Quibbles aside, this game is definitely worth a play.
